Why did Levi his right eye in AoT? Here’s What Happened

While Levi Ackermann is incredibly strong, that doesn’t mean he’s immune to injuries from attacks he receives. One such injury affected the right side of his body, even causing him to lose his right eye. What exactly happened?

1. While Transporting Zeke, He Detonated Himself with Levi Nearby

Levi and his squad were escorting Zeke in Paradis when an unfortunate event occurred – all of Levi’s subordinates transformed into Titans due to Zeke’s scream. In short, Levi was forced to kill his transformed squad members and fight Zeke, who had become the Beast Titan. Levi emerged victorious using Thunder Spears.

Levi managed to capture Zeke again single-handedly, even though all his squad members had died after becoming Titans. Zeke, who appeared mentally unstable, was restrained by Levi using a Thunder Spear at his neck – if Zeke made any reckless movements, it would explode.

However, Zeke deliberately detonated himself with the Thunder Spear, despite Levi being right next to him. Levi was caught in the explosion’s impact.

2. Levi Was Severely Injured, But Hange Fortunately Saved Him

Shortly after, Hange and the Jaegerists arrived to retrieve Zeke. They found Levi’s body severely injured from the Thunder Spear explosion that occurred right in front of his face. His right side was the most damaged, and he was nearly dead. The Jaegerists wanted to confirm Levi’s death by shooting him.

Hange lied to them, claiming Levi was already dead, then escaped with his body. Thanks to this, Levi survived.

3. However, His Right Side Including His Hand and Eye Were Injured, Reducing His Capabilities

After the Thunder Spear explosion in front of his face, Levi survived but was severely injured, especially on his right side. Besides his damaged eye, the right side of his hand and fingers were no longer intact.

As a result, Levi’s abilities were diminished during the effort to stop Eren and the Rumbling.
